Curtis was born in Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia she is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan and James Ernest Curtis Smith, an Australian lawyer. Her father, James Ernest Curtis Smith was married to Ojales in 1982. Jasmine is her sister who is an actor. On their father's side they had a half-sister called Clare who passed away in 2007 of an illness of the heart at just the age of four months.
